“Lagom” – not too much and not too little!
“I do not have to climb a mountain peak in order to appreciate the grandeur
of this earth. There are wild dandelions flowering on the patch of wasteland
just outside my windows. A wild rose bush will come to life in the spring rain,
and on summer nights the honeysuckle will send its fragrance through the
open windows”
---- Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond’s style of writing focuses on detailed observations of
simple everyday things or scenes from life. His simplistic writing
style reminds me of the Swedish culture ‘Lagom’ (pronounced as
Lah – gom).
‘Lagom’ doesn’t mean that you forego any of the pleasures it just
means that we enjoy everything in moderation. It can be seen in
the Swedish houses and their everyday style of living. Swedes
maintain an uncluttered home which gives breathing space and
helps to see the beauty of every piece of décor.

Does this sound familiar? Can we share a decluttered haiku that
has ample space (ma) in it?
