Red is the colour of life. It is also the colour of death. In fact, we encounter ‘red’ in so many ways all through our lives. It incorporates passion and particularly in the month of February, we resort to ‘red’ to say the unsaid. It does the talking on Valentine’s Day, be it the colour of the rose you choose, the heart shaped balloon or just a dress that confesses or confirms your love status. It is also the colour of devotion. In India, red being the colour of celebration, it is associated with a bride. The red dot on the forehead symbolises the marital status of a woman. Again, red bangles acquire special significance for many women in India. It acquires another dimension of beauty when this hue spreads on the horizon.
In fact, the mystery of red is intriguing. I was curious to know the dialectics of its meaning through the eyes of our haijin all over the world. I have been overwhelmed by the response. As you read the poems through February you can check it out for yourself.
Wishing you happy Valentine’s Day and all the celebrations of life.
Ciao!
