each time I read it, I feel it needs to be: begins to fall

Or is it - heaven and earth 'begin' to fall.

Then 'between' shouldn't be there on L1, isn't it? between Heaven and Earth

a drop, or two, of winter rain

begin to fall

This makes sense to me, I could be completely wrong.

It is an interesting question. Should the begin be conjugated with one (in which case it should be begins) or multiple (in which case it should be begin)? We would need a grammerian to answer that :)
