Though the poem is 8 years old, I remember exactly where I was when it found me. I am a walking poet. Everyday, rain or shine, I circle the farm fields and woods where I live, opening myself to haiku moments and responding quickly and without intellection in a notebook that I carry. Part of that walk is a stretch of train tracks; the same ones I grew up by. I was in a wooded section in early fall, so just a strip of sky was visible between the trees above. I heard the geese coming a long ways off and waited for them to pass over.…
