This one-liner had me hooked from the very first read. Who is this 'she' here? And 'endless summer' was full of such possibilities, so many interpretations. But after reading Vandana's backstory, I knew i was hopelessly wrong on all counts. All i can say is that i love this verse even more now. Pognant and tender, it will always remain one of my favourites.


So over to Vandana Parashar:


This verse came into being after I lost my mother recently.

I would be okay one minute, and then the realization that I have lost both my parents would hit me like a tsunami. I would break down uncontrollably.

Thank you so much, Sanjuktaa. Beautiful poem. Yes, even I had a different meaning to it but Vandana's reply and what inspitred her is gorgeous. Of late, after the Covid, I have been spending months and months with my mother and I already know her passing away is something I need to reckon with.
