And here is the poet's backstory.
This poem was inspired by the death of my grandmother. She began to take on an ethereal quality as she grew closer to death, and seemed to be aware that she was passing on. It felt to me like she became something else when she passed...something delicate, yet very strong. Like an owl. Years later, I was walking on a trail in Alaska and a snowy owl perched on a branch swiveled its head to look at me. For some reason, that moment took me back to the moment of her passing. Much of my work draws from memory. I like to explore the interactions between past, present, and future...how different moments in time…

L2 acts as a pivot in a way.
L3 is very effective and poignant.
I like Mohua's comment.
Beautifully crafted pivot and ku with strong images. Amazing how the raw anguish and the poet's frame of mind is laid bare. Thank you for sharing.
