When asked about the backstory of this absolutely lovely haiku, Christopher shared—


“I live near a preserve called Independence Grove*(description below). It’s a beautiful setting so lots of folks go there to take all manner of photos and portraits (at this time of year there are lots of students in prom and graduation attire). I go there on a regular basis to walk or bike, so it’s not unusual to be politely asked to move for the sake of someone’s photograph. Sunset provides a scenic backdrop for the poem, and can also suggest aging (“old and in the way” comes to mind). So for me the poem is both humorous and poignant, which is something I aim for in …

I loved the sharp juxtaposition in this haiku. I am reminded of something I had written not long ago:
