Love how the images run into each other. Keeps the reader guessing as to what big fish swim in the depths of the boy’s mind; just as mysterious as the blue depths of the ocean.

My first observation is initial alliteration in this poem. There are three words for which starting letter is "b". This week, we have initial alliteration as a prompt for haikaiTALKS, perhaps that made me observe here


It's a boy, not a fisherman. It's like a zoom out from a blue eye to a part of the sea where the big fish are (which itself is quite big compared to eyes). It's also mystery to me. The poet has cleverly used line 2. The boy's eyes are deeper blue where big fish are or the sea is deeper blue where big fish are?

To me it appears, it's the boy's eyes which are deeper blue when he sees the big fish.…
